🌿 Are You Giving Yourself Grace… or Letting Yourself Off the Hook?

“Give yourself grace.”
We hear this all the time — and on the surface, it sounds like exactly what we need.
Be kind to yourself. Don’t be so hard on yourself. It’s okay.
And yes… sometimes that’s absolutely true.
But here’s the question most of us don’t stop to ask:
👉 Is what I’m calling “grace”… actually helping me move forward?
Or…
👉 Is it quietly keeping me stuck?
🧠 Why This Matters
Many women I talk to aren’t struggling because they’re too hard on themselves.
They’re struggling because they’re stuck in a cycle that sounds like this:
“I’ll start again tomorrow.” “It’s been a long day.” “It’s not a big deal.”
And while those thoughts feel kind in the moment…
👉 They often lead to the same patterns repeating.
🌿 What Real Grace Actually Looks Like
Grace is not ignoring what happened.
Grace is not pretending it doesn’t matter.
👉 Grace is honesty without shame.
It sounds like:
“That didn’t go how I wanted.”
“What led to that choice?”
“What can I do differently next time?”
Grace allows you to:✔ acknowledge reality✔ take ownership✔ keep moving forward
⚠️ What Letting Yourself Off the Hook Looks Like
This is where it gets a little uncomfortable — but important.
Letting yourself off the hook sounds like:
“It’s fine, I’ll start tomorrow”
“I deserve this” (over and over again)
“I just don’t have it in me today”
And while those thoughts feel relieving…
👉 They remove responsibility.
And when responsibility goes…so does change.
💡 The Key Difference
Here’s the simplest way to look at it:
👉 Grace moves you forward. 👉 Avoidance keeps you comfortable.
Both feel similar in the moment.
But only one creates change.
🔄 A Simple Shift You Can Practice
Instead of saying:
“I’ll start over tomorrow”
Try asking:
👉 “What’s one thing I can do right now to stay aligned?”
Not perfect. Not all-or-nothing.
Just one step.
That might look like:
stopping when you’re satisfied
going for a short walk
drinking water
pausing instead of continuing
💚 The Goal Isn’t Perfection
This isn’t about being strict.
It’s not about doing everything right.
It’s about:
awareness
ownership
and small course corrections
Because that’s what builds consistency.
💬 Final Thought
You deserve grace.
But you also deserve growth.
And those two things?
👉 They are not in conflict.
When done well, they work together.
💭 A Question for You
Where in your life might you be calling something “grace”…
…but it’s actually keeping you stuck?
